On Good Friday 1986, 4 young art students from the Alabama School of Fine Arts drove up to the late Reverend Howard Finster's Paradise Gardens in northern Georgia. We were young, impressionable, and heavily under the influence of R.E.M. When we drove up to the Finster compound in the dark, we were making sure we could find the place. After that, we planned to go get a cheap motel along a state highway, and return the following day to begin our pilgrimage...
