Re: does anyone have a higher quality of the Superman Cartoons? |
Restorations may qualify for copyright status if they have sufficient originality. Mere mechanical enhancements of public domain works do not qualify, such as, say, using a filter to sharpen the whole work. But a restoration that involved work by a professional colorist and enhancement to individual shots would probably qualify.

Well, they didn't make any changes to the films. They just cleaned up the negatives and struck new prints. There were no changes to the picture or sound.

Well then, if the cleaned up cartoons are in the public domain, who and how does it get uploaded here?

Re: does anyone have a higher quality of the Superman Cartoons? |
Hi. I have created hi-res PSP mp4 versions. I was not able to upload them to the Archive (just couldn't get the upload to work), but I am starting to upload them to Google Video. Courtesy of
www.PDTreasures.com, these are remastered clips from an excellent DVD compilation. I have restored the end-cards that are missing in many of these shorts, but don't plan on copyrighting these versions. Frankly I hope this doesn't give the idea for someone else to try and copyright them. I have licensed the shorts under a Creative Commons License, Public Domain. Please visit
http://www.pdtreasures.com/superman.html and let them know what you think. Episode 1 is here:

Re: does anyone have a higher quality of the Superman Cartoons? |
Actually, they are 320x240 mp4's, excellent quality for PSP. If you want DVD-Ready mpegs 720x480 for your own compilations, they will be available at the PDTreasures website at
www.pdtreasures.com. There is contact info there or you can email Georges at pdtreasures@gmail.com. (I hope it is alright to plug the website; this is a great community for sharing each other's PD resources.)
