As a witness to both, I have to admit the 10/12/84 Dew definitley had more raw power and emotion than the 9/18/87 show. Actually, the 6/18/83 Saratoga Dew was right up there at the top as well for that mid 80's best Dew's.

wasnt' a physical witness to either so in that respect must defer to you. But in recordings with crowd response to each, the 87 blows them away by far. Jerry's vocals from a pure "listener's" perspective are FAR more powerful and emotional in the 87 version. But that is from the living room. Though i know i couple of people who were there in 87 who were "transported" like no other version - very subjective though i will grant you.

Thank you, sir. I, for one, try to avoid saying one version is superior v. another. There are always certain versions of songs that a majority of listeners will say is the "Best", there too are others who will vote for other versions. It is all subjective. For me, the Augusta Dew hits me in the gut more than any other (I wasn't there in person, but I was for the Garden Dew, so that tells you just how much Augusta hit me) but I will never say that it is the "best", only my favorite. I will never judge a song by the audience reaction, only my own. But, as usual, thats just me.

Thanks for the reminder of the SPAC show, haven't listened to it in quite some time and have it blasting now as I'm having the morning cup of life. The entire show smokes and that Scarlet>Fire is amazing as well. Good call.

Some of my fondest memories at that show. $8 tickets at the gate!

Nice hot day, people all bathing in the stream. No police, this was the first time in town. First night that the fireflies came out for the summer!

Was it ever here at all?

Oh yeah, the show was just unbelievable!
