If you're serious about seeking funding, you must define a social benefit. In Uganda, a place with lots* of problems, that has been easy. In the US and I assume the UK, its more difficult. Why do you want one in the UK? What unmet need is a bookmob uniquely qualified to address?

Good points Richard. Uganda's need is far greater, but access to books, information, education and literacy is a growing problem in rural areas of the UK.

I agree about the need and it is easier to build a case for the social need in places like uganda etc. But as was said, esp. in rural areas we do have problems with literacy etc. and the few mobile libraries we do have, the routes are slowly shutting down.

I say yes, lets build one in the UK, that with a lot of the rural wireless / broadband groups will help encourage literacy and access to books (especially those that are now in the public domain).

We can then encourage people to help set up these systems elsewhere.

Whilst many places on the earth are in dire need of help like this, it is also a fact that large groups of the populations in counties like he US and the UK are also culturaly disenfranchised.

cheers,

Hi all,

I know some people emailed me about UK bookmobiles last year, but i have lost a lot of email over the last few months with a series of HD crashes :)

So if this is on anyones agenda then please get back in touch with me.

Oh, we didn't get a place on the Plymouth-Dakkar challenge this year, fingers crossed for next :)

All the world's problems can be solved with golf clubs and staff discounts, I hope someone can post some links to them.

Hello,

I'm not very familiar with UK funding structure, but my guess is that there is a good deal of money out there. If you send me an email I'd be happy to talk about some general strategy that I've learned while seeking funding in the US.

Don't know about funding in the UK, but I would be interested in trying to get one going. Maybe we could approach the British Library?

mark.

That's a good idea. Hopefully I can connect you and Matt Rose and you can begin to gather a kernel for the project.
Thanks
