Over the next couple of weeks we are testing FreeCache on the etree files. FreeCache is a system of co-operating caches to move large files of free content closer to users.

We are hoping we can serve more users via FreeCache than we can serve just from the Internet Archive.

If you click on the FreeCache link for a show, you'll get the whole show in one giant tar file.
We will turn these links on and off as we are optimizing the system.

Please let us know what your experience is.

hey ralf,
are all shows going to have this download option or just a select few? if it's just some, could you possibly tell us which shows have this capability so we can test it out?

Ralf turned it off for the weekend until we get some more diskspace for it (it seemed to be thrashing).

Here is a file that is currently on a machine at stanford:

If you are into geeky things, take a look at the status page:

and if you click on one of the hostnames you go to more details, like:

which can show you the files you can download from where.

try it out, they seem to be really fast (I was downloading at 12Megabits/sec from stanford).
