For a movie produced in 1932 looking it up in the Copyright Office's online database will not be useful as it only has records back to '76.

Okay. Where should one then look? Also with regard to foreign countries (which seems necessary since the Uruguay/Metropolis thing.) Is there a "how to"-guide somewhere?

What is the actual title of the film? Is it German?
