If you are downloading lossy files, the best way to save them is as data. I can understand that many older CD players can't play MP3 discs, but just please be aware that a CD sourced from lossy files will not sound the same as one made from the original lossless source. If you have access to a CD player which will play MP3 discs, you can burn your data that way and not only save physical storage space, but have much longer playing times per disc as well.
