Hey all, Wanted to update to show that there's still some volunteer work going into the software part of the archive, albeit behind the scenes. Please note that I don't speak officially for the Archive, I'm just helping them out. 1. CD-ROM INDEX (Macromedia-related) Currently, no further publishers have yet granted permission to put their CD-ROMs online. Therefore this page is likely to stay in its current state for the foreseeable future, with an index of titles which used Macromedia-based technology. Please see http://www.archive.org/iathreads/postview.php?id=4171 if you're still confused about what the 'Software' tab of the archive currently contains. And please mail info@archive.org if you are a rightsholder who wants to make their material available here. 2. ARCHAIC SOFTWARE COLLECTION The Archive owns a small collection of archaic software for formats such as the Commodore 64 and Amiga, and I'm helping them look at ways they can legitimately be preserved, since floppy discs will clearly decay, and their contents may not survive over time. There was a reply comment we made to the Copyright Office regarding exemptions to the DMCA's anticircumvention rulemaking, which came about as a direct result of this research, and can be read here - http://www.copyright.gov/1201/2003/reply/015.pdf . Again, this software will not be made available on the archive.org website unless full permission has been given by the rightsholder. 3. OTHER POSSIBLE SOFTWARE ARCHIVES I'm trying to look at other possibilities for software that the Archive could be a good repository for, focusing particularly on open source or freeware programs. Regards, Simon C.

SourceForge is a good place to start - I've wanted to see this archived here to watch the evolution of software. I think Brad Tofel might have "sic'ed" the crawler on Source Forge a while back.
