11/20/71 is the earliest Turlock introduction to Truckin' I recall... At that point Garcia still thinks it's hilarious.

It was mainly through '72 that Weir referred to Turlock before Truckin', lots of times, with variations.... Like on 12/12/72: "Hey listen, is there anybody here from Turlock tonight? When you're in love, the whole world is from Turlock, right?"

The Dead had actually played in Turlock back in February '68...maybe they picked up a few fans...
In the banter after Schoolgirl on 10/20/68, you can hear the band sounding very confused about where they are:
Garcia: "We managed to get here to Fresno, or is it..."
Lesh: "Wait a minute, I thought this was Turlock."
Pigpen: "Right where the map said it was."

I'd be surprised if Turlock even had its own music charts!
One guy online says, "I ran into Bob Weir backstage at one of his solo club dates...and he told me how Truckin' had gone to number one at a radio station in Turlock."

Maybe it just took 11 months for Weir to be informed of this...
"They love us in Turlock and we love them for that."
