Re: Lulu Belle (1948) - copyright status? |
The copyright was renewed in 1975. (And Alpha Video doesn't sell it.) It could be p.d. if it lacks a valid copyright notice in the opening or ending credits.
A valid notice must contain the name of the copyright holder, the word "copyright" or the copyright symbol, and the year. ("Night of the Living Dead" is p.d. only because it lacked such a notice. Another film on this site that lacked a notice is "The Saint Louis Bank Robbery", starring Steve McQueen.)
If you want to have better luck finding p.d. movies that haven't been uploaded here, look at the output of the "poverty row" studios such as Tiffany, Monogram, P.R.C. (Producers Releasing Corporation), and Pine-Thomas Productions.
You could periodically check this site for new Alpha Video releases:
http://www.oldies.com/If a pre-1964 U.S. film is released on the Alpha Video label, it is almost certainly p.d.
