I've never understood why people hold the Cornell Dew above so many other fine versions. Don't get me wrong, I love that show, but I think it's far from being the best.

I've always felt the Cornell dew was overrated too, but I've kept it pretty closeted for fear of being ostricized from the GD community. To my ears, it's always been, dare I say, kind of a rote version, with not a whole lot of fireworks. I could name at least 5-10 versions off the top of my head. That leave Cornell in the dust. I agree '74 probably has the best Dews, although I think personally '73 is close second. And I think '69 could be one of the the most underrated years for Dew- some amazingly powerful versions from that year...

I don't get it either. I find it to be one of the lowest points of that show, and overall a kind of boring performance of the song. I don't have very high regard for many post-'74 dews though. For me '74 was the peak year for the song. I feel the song kept getting better with each passing year up until the hiatus and then they never matched any previous versions, other than a few exceptions. The Cornell show was not one of those exceptions imo.

Kind of like why Baskin-Robbins has 31 flavors. For me, the Barton Hall Dew is one of the few perfect songs they played.

Ever.
