For three musicians it would have to be Cream, The Who and Led Zeppelin with (ZZ Top as honorable mention) I would say The Jimi Hendrix Experience too, except Noel and Mitch (to a degree) were nowhere near the musicians of the Cream, the Who or Zeppelin... (apologies to Robert Plant)
