chris, i didn't mean to generalize so much. as a fairly creative thinker, i just find ambiguity to be more interesting. that's what fascinates me about pieces of art from people such as dali. that being said, it's not easy to pull off effectively, and can often be seen as a lazy way out, such as the sopranos finale you mentioned.
i find nothing boring about that s&g tune. paul simon is one of my all-time favorite songwriters. many of the most beautiful songs and pieces of art are not open to much interpretation. but like i said, i usually have a preference for art that's ambiguous.
