this is a near flawless later version of dupree's. i also love 1977-10-02.

it's also the first dupree's since '69! and they fucking nail it! i like what donna adds to this version. it's subtle, but it's perfect. she doesn't try to sing over anyone. just very nice accompaniment when it's needed.
edit: just listened to them both. the '77 version is without a doubt 10 times as tightly played.
however i really like the '84 one. i don't mind the imperfect playing when it has some very top-notch unique jamming for a dupree's.
not too much going on in the 2 chances for solos in the '77 one. it's played perfectly throughout (especially the vocals), but the solos leave me wanting more.
brent's carnival-like sounds on the '84 version along with jerry's unique and tasty licks make this a standout.
they both have such a different sound to them. they're both great and it's hard to say which i prefer. i like them both for different reasons.

well take another look at that 84 show. The new minglewood is as good as ANY minglewood out there. The LLR is my all time favorite, being very quiet and incredibly heartfelt. The deal is no slouch, the feel like a stranger starts out thumpin with phil and doesnt let up. A superb alabama getaway. Its such a unique and quality show that I am continually amazed to find only myself talking about it. Early second set is equally good, but the latter half kind of sucks, anything with stones > NFA cant be that great. Sorry, but i despise that sequence.

cool thanks. i'll check out the rest of the show at some point for sure. i listened to the minglewood with followed the dupree's and was really diggin' it. i normally don't like brent's scat singing too much, but i kinda like it here. phil really stood out in this version too.

yea if you aren't into his vocal solo i can understand. But its basically like getting two brent solos for the price of one. It just builds and builds. The biggest downer is bobby being a bit low in the mix. Was it Healy?
