Re: Europe 72 trivia question #4 |
We have a winner! Sorry for being a stickler for the rules, but without rules society degenerates into chaos.

Hmmm, is that what's wrong with the Forum?
Rules? We don't need no stinkin rules!
;)
Speaking of rules, and movies for the weekend, Cool Hand Luke is just the ticket...no matter how many times you see that movie there is always something new to take away from it...HDStanton sings rather well as an added bonus, relating this BACK to the music.

Re: Rules and Movies, no trivia... |
If you're a fan of Harry Dean Stanton's singing, check out the hilarious early film by David Lynch, 'The Cowboy and the Frenchman'. A surreal short - about 25 mins. - based around a few double-entendres. HD does a fine version of 'Home on the Range'. Harry Dean could easily be telling the Frenchman (or Slim and Dusty as well) is "what we've got here is failure to communicate ..." . . . which is the basis for this strange and hilarious little film.

...and after that one can watch the even more excellent Paul Newman performance in The Hustler.

Re: Rules and Movies, no trivia... |
"Eddie!! You OWE me MONEY!" was one of our most common retorts in various HS settings (it was another movie we watched for a creative writing class...the guy loved Paul N., and those are two great flicks).
Trivia: do you know who utters those words, Lou? No cheating!

We have a winner! Does it count for much if you were the only participant? At least you didn't say "Gleason?"...

I've saved myself from what would have been unutterable shame, which has got to count for something. I must have seen that movie eight or ten times, and I continue to enjoy it.

Re: Rules and Movies, no trivia... |
Yup; darn good, darn good. I personally place Luke at the top of PN's amazing films of significance, but Hustler is damn fine as well. Having watched them in this creative writing class 3-5 times each in the early 70s, then once every few yrs since, including a handful with my own boys when they were in HS, I'd say I've easily seen them both > 12 times...never get old.
