hey,

i live in the Bay Area, and might be able to volunteer with getting some of the cd-rom content online a little better, and even dealing with compatibility issues once it IS downloadable.

i've mailed info@archive.org and brewster@archive.org plus jonathan aizen this evening regarding this, hope to hear from you guys soon.

keep up the great work,
h0l/simon.

hey again,

firstly, replying to one's self is the first sign of madness. but, in an UNOFFICIAL capacity, i went through the four downloads that ARE posted in this section, and am pleased to report precisely a 50 percent success rate in getting them to run.

I include my reviews and whether I could get the CD-ROM working below. I'm running Windows 2000 on a Pentium 450 or thereabouts, if that helps.

1. Whose Life Is It Anyway? [BROKEN]
This archive is missing the majority of the files - only a couple of Macromedia Authorware libraries and an MPEG movie are present. I would not recommend downloading it until this is fixed. Thanks!

2. New York City Economic Development [WORKING]
well presented guide for NY business investors.
Produced in 2000, this guide has neat, jazzy music and good presentation. But its only really of interest to those wanting to start a business in NY. The only possible exception to that is the Locations section, which taught me the main parts of New York City and their sights. The CD ran fine on my Windows 2000 machine - only clicking on the .exe file was needed. Poignantly, the disc features the World Trade Center prominently in the intro/outro, since it was made before the terrorist attack :(

3. An Interactive Learning Experience - Retin-A Micro [BROKEN]
This CD-ROM is, unfortunately, missing files from the uploaded image. You can get some partially working voiceovers about acne medication and some kind of broken interactive pimple screen (!) by loading different Director files when you are asked for the first missing one (OR_HO.DXR), but I would not recommend downloading until a fixed version is up.

4.Pattern Essentials for Fashion Design [WORKING]
This is a cool little guide to fashion design practicalities, if youre into seam adjustment and zipper fitting and so on, heh. Nice design and layout, at least. However, on my Windows 2000 machine, it wouldnt work properly until I updated the /xtras/ directory with the latest Macromedia Authorware Xtras. There are two ways you can do this - 1. Go download the trial version of Authorware from the Macromedia website and then copy their /xtras/ directory into the Pattern Essentials one. 2. Download them from my site at ftp://mirror.support.nl/pub/mono/archiveorg/authorware-xtras-win.zip - I cant make any guarantee about how long they will be hosted there, and i cut them down from the full Authorware distribution to save space, but it works, after a couple of missing-DLL complaints.

Regards,
h0l/simon.

Boy, can this collection need some love and attention. We have this absolutely great collection, a partial catalog, and virtually none of it online. Do you live in the bay area? (since there is a bunch of dealing with the physical items)
