But in doing so I noticed that there are 2 subfolders and four dat files

Must be a temp file created by your FTP client. There was also 2 folders called "Cache" and "Data" - these were causing the issue. I deleted all of those.

The show will import as soon as the cjm abbreviation is related to an approved artist. You are no longer receiving the illegal character error message.

Associating cjm with Country Joe was one of the first things I did. It is now listed as associated. But the message stating that it is not associated is still there, and the option to import is not. How long before this takes?

It's immediate, and since it's not on the list then it hasn't been associated yet.
