Re: Best Truckin? - a few less obvious suggestions |
Here are a couple more sentimental favorites, well worth a listen...
September 20, 1970, Fillmore East -
http://www.archive.org/details/gd70-09-20.aud.remaster.sirmick.27583.sbeok.shnf - Very nice (and rare) acoustic version, this is probably the third-ever live version. Pig plays piano. The better quality of this recording significantly enhances the nuances of the acoustic sound.
October 23, 1970, McDonough Arena, Georgetown U., Washington, D.C. –
http://www.archive.org/details/gd1970-10-23.aud.wolfson.motb-0004.85071.flac16 - First-ever Truckin’> Other One combo that would become one of the band’s calling cards. Wolfson's audience recording captures the energy of that night very well, and is reasonably well-balanced despite being a little fuzzy. The Truckin> Other One segue is truly remarkable given that it’s the first one ever. There is no break for drums and no Phil bomb to introduce the Other One, just a seamless continuation from Truckin jam into Other One jam that sounds perfectly organic. Listen to this one.
October 19, 1974 – Only split Truckin? (He’s Gone> Truckin jam> Caution jam> Drums> Space> Truckin> Black Peter)
- From GD Movie Soundtrack - A wild version, Truckin’ is announced out of He’s Gone, but instead of starting up the song proper, they jam it out for a few minutes and head into a sweet Caution jam that goes off into drums and space before returning for Truckin.

I guess not to the omniscient.
What I meant is that I don't think they're among the top versions, but they're fun and unique and worth a listen.
