Found! books by same reader - also, your favourite? |
That's terrific, thank you.
It's puzzling that they don't include the name of the reader in the text of the book page, no?
I'm new to listening, though I registered ages ago. I loved this last (first!) one.
If you were to pick one book and/or one reader to recommend, where would you send me?

I'm not sure what you mean by "book page," but the reader is usually mentioned in the description.

I don't spend a lot of time with audio books, and I don't really have any recommendations as far as readers. My favorite readings on the Archive are
Thoreau's Civil Disobedience and
Alice in Wonderland (loved it as a kid). Both are available in audio.

Just a suggestion |
If I may suggest -
Pick an author you like. Search on that author. You will find that many times one reader will read many of the books for a given author.
Some authors I like are
Anna Katherine Green - mysteries
H Beam Piper - sci fi
Wilkie Collins - mysteries and horror
Edgar Rice Burroughs - sci fi and drama
P G Wodehouse - humor (Jeeves series are EXCELLENT)
Mary Roberts Rinehart - mystery
G A Henty - historical adventure
Victor Appleton - light sci fi/adventure
Arthur Conan Doyle - Hey who doesn't like Sherlock Holmes? :-)
I hope this list gives you some new things to try. Enjoy!

"If you were to pick one book and/or one reader to recommend, where would you send me?"
I assume there are others I have yet to discover, but these three, in alphabetical order, unfailingly can 'make my day' with their outstandingly exceptional talents and sensitivities to a particular text/author's 'voice'.
Use search, as indicated in another posting here, or select the main 'Audio' category on the right menu; and search...
J.M. Smallheer and/or
MorganScorpion and/or
Peter Yearsley.
Or, perhaps a more reliable method, is to search with: "read by " -- with the quotes included.

You would find it much easier to search the LibriVox catalogue by reader rather than the Internet Archive search, as you can also search for solo/group recordings, and narrow down by genre and category. Try
HERE.
This little forum at archive.org is rarely used, as most of our discussions take place on
our own forum. We invite you to join us there. :)
You will find much discussion there about listeners' favourite recordings.
