Criswell was such a hoot! In person, even more so. :)

He was a character. Where did you ever see him in person?

Re: Some Favorite Movie Lines |
In 1970 he did a personal appearance at of all places, a car dealership in Pittsburgh. About 3 people showed up, including my dad and myself. Cris was pretty heavy compared to how he looked in Plan 9, looking like he needed a bath and shampoo, and was apparently wearing the same tux he wore in Plan 9, now badly worn with holes in the knees. He talked for an hour about all the horrible stuff that would soon occur around the world; plagues, wars, etc., then he gave me an autograph which closed with, "...and for your wonderful future ahead!" I looked at dad and whispered, "WONDERFUL?" But he was quite entertaining and his voice was still strong. Dad and I talked about that encounter for years. I have a crappy color slide that I took of Criswell that day, but I don't have a scanner that can do slides.

Re: Some Favorite Movie Lines |
Maybe Kinkos would be equipped for that.

Re: Some Favorite Movie Lines |
Sir, you are my new hero.
A shabby, unhygienic, overweight Criswell appearing at a used-car dealership in Pittsburgh, and you were there, and have a 40 year-old faded color slide to prove it...Cosmico, you *must* find a way to scan it and post it! It will become an instant classic for Ed Wood fans the world over!

Re: Some Favorite Movie Lines |
I second the motion. It would be great to see that photo. For now, here's more from the gift that keeps on giving, Plan 9 From Outer Space:
"The sky to which she had once looked, was now just a covering for her dead body."
"Inspector Clay is dead, murdered - and somebody's responsible!"
"Then they attacked a town, a small town I admit, nevertheless a town of people, people who died."
"The saucers are up there. The cemetery is out there. But I'll be locked up in there. Now off into your wild blue yonder."
"Sometimes in the night, when it gets a little lonely, I reach over and touch it."
"Hey Edie, how about you and me balling it up in Albuquerque?"
"Atmospheric conditions in outer space often interfere with our transmitting."
"We found a lot of suspicious things out in that cemetery. Then again we didn't find anything to base a fact or suspicion on."
"Modern women!"
"Yeah, they've been like that down through the ages."
"They've been mighty useful on flesh and blood, and you two look like you have a lot of both."
"You see! You see! Your stupid minds! You're stupid! Stupid!
"When you have the solarminite, you have nothing - nor does the universe!"
…and on and on.

Re: Some Favorite Movie Lines |
Okay guys, I'll look up that slide and get it to Kinkos. Just realize that it was taken by a 15 year old kid with a cheap Kodak Instamatic 126. Also, no guarantee I can find that slide soon, if at all. I just know it's around somewhere as I saw it a couple of years ago.

Re: Some Favorite Movie Lines |
Understood, and much appreciated!
For what it's worth, my moment of being one degree of separation away from Ed Wood happened in 1980 at the Nuart theater in LA. They were having an Ed Wood night, a triple feature of Plan 9, Glen or Glenda, and Bride of the Monster. (It was part of a "worst film festival", which enabled me to see Robot Monster on the big screen, among other things).
Anyway, Wood regulars Conrad Brooks and Paul Marco, who played the two patrolmen in Plan 9, were there to take questions after the screening. Brushes with greatness...
