Went to a new job this morning at the "old" cbs radio t.v. studio in hollywood.
I noticed the building next door has a sign "Hollywood Palladium" and I'm like hey know what I can listen to today!

I'm up to Cumberland Blues and they are setting it on fire! Can't wait for the Hard to Handle.

Let us know if you find a back entrance to the Palladium through your office. Do they still host concerts there?

Thanks BD. Looks like LiveNation invested a good chunk of change in refurbishing it. Some good shows coming up: The Dead Weather and The Black Keys.

Those were the exact same 2 shows that caught my eye!

Live Nation - don't be fooled, we are Clear Channel (and thus had the money to put in it) and Ticketmaster's vile offspring....

They are both swinging through Portland. Black Keys are already sold out for their show in October at the Crystal Ballroom. I'll most likely pick up Dead Weather tickets for their late July show, also at the Crystal Ballroom.

Love the Crystal Ballroom - that floor has BOUNCE. Is the bar downstairs on street level still a good hangout? Been a few years for me.

Yep, Ringler's is still there and a great place to meet up downtown. The McMenamin brothers have the whole building: Ringler's pub on the street level, Lola's Room is the mezzanine and plays smaller shows or is often the smoking room for Crystal concerts, and the Crystal Ballroom upstairs. If you ever come to town let me know.

Geez, that's some pretty high company.

Checking him out on grooveshark.com right now. Walk in the Woods sounds good. Might be fun for Mrs. Wine and I to have a date night next Thursday.

From wiki, here's Ticketmaster's revenues from a couple years back:

Sold 142 million+ tickets valued at $8 billion in 2007

That's just over $56 a ticket.

A much bigger operation than I anticipated: 6,678 employees.

I see Brian Regan is the CFO, is that the former President's son?

Useless Factoid: The Palladium appeared in the Blues Brothers Movie as the location for the fund raising concert.

The outside shots were from a venue in Chicago, but the interior was Palladium.

wow, what a monsterous show! Thanks for the tip!

And to whomever mentioned the grooveshark site, thanks for mentioning it. I had never heard of it before, & heard some great Kevin Kinney songs. Now THAT'S a blast from the past!

I lived in Atlanta when Drivin' n Cryin' almost blew up. Really loved that album Scarred but Smarter. He's one of those guys who never seemed to quite get his due . . . hope he's doing well.

He's doing great. Their new album, first in 12 years, is very damn good. Tim Nielsen, the bass player and other co-founder of drivin', is one of my oldest pals. We went to Roswell High together and I drove him to music midtown to buy his first bass when he was playing in high school band with another old pal, Ray Dafrico, you might know of.

You can stream the new release from their site -
just click on the media player.

Kevn and now drivin have shows here on the archive.

If you go one block north and a block west, you'll find the Ivar Theater, where the boys played their first ever Hollywood show on Feb. 25, 1966.

This is what I get for believing the dates on the Archive and dead.net instead of going to the correct sources.

Ok, here is where they played on 2/25/66:

However, they did not play the Ivar on 3/12/66:
