TPOD - trivial post of day |
This will surely be the trivial post of the day, but I wouldn't mind having arms like Bobby when I'm in my sixties. I know carrying an axe is heavy and all, but surely there's a gym routine layered on top of the normal rigors of touring. Okay - laugh, guffaw, ridicule all you want - I'M JUST SAYING......

He's juicing, I know it. Explains the talk sing thing and fits of emotional outbursts re soundboards as well as his yearly gig with Steve Miller at Bohemian Grove.
...i'm just saying...

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
another vote for "juicing"
look at some older pix, check out those "noodle arms" and then tell me he ain't "on the juice"
Or maybe he bought himself a Bowflex.
"I'm Bobby Weir, ROCKSTAR. I'm 62 years old, living my fantasy of playing in a rock and roll band. And I'm in the best shape of my life. This is a real Bowflex body."

Doesn't Bobby have daughters? I suspect he needs to be able to intimidate prospective suitors.

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
Do you really think we can have a TPOD? Wouldn't most (read all except LIA and few others) posts be eligible for this? And the last thing we need is for people to start competing on generating the TPOD. Well at least we would all be highly qualified for that. But who would do the judging?

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
I suspect you’re right, this concept might further drag down the quality of posts.
As I’ve gotten to know the virtual personalities of regulars here, I’ve slowly realized how little I have to actually contribute to the board in terms of furthering knowledge or elevating the conversation to new levels. This leaves my posts to fall into the following categories:
** Cutting & pasting articles from the press (no original thinking required)
** Comments on purely non-dead topics (beer, books, religion, other bands)
** Generally complimentary/innocuous responses to others (“great post”, “thanks for that man”, “you cracked me up!”, etc.)
** Discussing my concert experiences from the newest incarnations of the Dead. In the inner circles of Deaddom, I suspect this is the lowest level of primary experience. Honestly, I cringe when I think of CPW, SkyDawg, or GoP reading my Furthur/Dead concert recaps!
Ah well, it’s all in good fun anyway. It’s a great little corner of the web, and it’s funny how I feel like I know so many of the posters, even when I’ve never exchanged comments with many of them.

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
I had my tongue planted firmly in cheek (my cheek) when I wrote that. As far as I am concerned this place is primarily for entertainment that is loosely associated with the music of a band. I think SDH has discussed it as the virtual parking lot and there were no rules for discussion there, right? IMO as long as the conversation is respectful of others and we understand that we all don't have to have the same opinion about things, then I could care less what is posted here. It is great when its about the music or the band but even some of the off-topic discussions have been highly stimulating and/or entertaining.
So in short, I guess I was saying that your contributions are appreciated. Geez, if I continue to make long-winded speeches that lack focus like that one, they may try to make me the PM. I assume that it is a prerequisite for the position ;-)

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
I'd say you are qualified to run for PM should a vacancy ever arise (perish the thought!). Yep, I picked up on the humor in your post; I just tend to overdo the self-deprecation. Agreed that this place seems like a cadre of friends bonded through a common interest in the Dead, but not bound to discuss only Dead-related topics. I glommed on to this place as soon as I found it because, in the "real" world, I have but 1 friend that shares my love of the Grateful Dead.

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
Yeah, I know it's been said, and I would never want to offend any of the "real" contributors, but here's the sad truth for me: if it was all LiA tomes (BIG cringe on my part; REALLY!), all details on the band that could be (should be!) compiled in a book, I actually wouldn't come round at all.
I really hope no one takes it the wrong way, but it would be just like a BLOG on WWII or some other of my fav topics: the real details and such are for reading in a book, for me...I am one of those that in fact cannot read more than a paragraph or two on a screen at a time. This explains why I often don't get things (w)right when responding to posts--seriously--as I just scan them...

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
I sort of agree although the real life experiences of many would be difficult to capture in a book. GoP's discussion of the Fillmore East and Capitol shows of the early '70s, Rob's discussion of Eyes of the World from '74, your experiences in '75, Cliff's Radio City experiences, SDH and bluedevil in Richmond in '85 and so on and so on. So I do think some of the Dead-related discussion here would never be accurately captured in a book. Besides we all know why you here, to run the joint and flirt with the ladies right? It's good to be the king.

Oh, I can certainly think of a trivial person who would be perfect for the job (no, not me, you pricks). He'll step forth, you'll see, he won't be able to not step forth. Just need some trumpets to sound his arrival.

Re: TPOD - trivial post of day |
Wow! That was not even the Bobby I saw some yrs ago at a Ratdog show! He had a bit of paunch then...I am sure (?), and the arms...more like the originals.
I would say he's doing some serious lifting, reps wise, and a low fat diet (which he's always been into, right? or at least at times).
But hey--as long as you're not doing any damage, in any number of ways, it's great for him, and I'd love to do it myself as well...
