Forum: etree Subject: Re: First time upload problem?

Well I'll have to ask my friend what his speed is. I know he has downloaded a bunch of shows and for say like a 2 hour show it only takes up to 30 minutes.

Well, downloading is typically about 10-12 times faster than uploading (see 3000 vs. 256 in my post above) - this is because ISP's assume that downloading is 10 times more important than uploading for everyone out there.

30 minutes (length of time to upload 1 track) x 10 tracks = 300 minutes or 5 hours to upload a 2 disc show.

Unless he's paying $150 a month for internet, he's getting standard, expected speeds from his ISP. A half hour to upload a 15 minute song in FLAC format is a typical home service speed.

Does SmartFTP only do 1 track at a time or is this unusual?

It can do more than 1. However, it just splits that 34K you mentioned above by the number of tracks you upload at once.

1 track = each track gets 34K/sec
2 tracks = each track gets 17K/sec and takes twice as long to complete.
3 tracks = each track gets 11.3/sec and takes three times as long to complete.

I guess a good question is after logging in using audio-uploads.archive.org , my username, password ,and port 21 what steps do I take to put the flac files in to upload?

Either drag and drop, or use the "Global Queue" feature. If you search the forums for that you will find instructions.

Should I be putting just the folder in or all of the files in to be uploaded(it only let me put the individual files in)?

Just drag and drop the folder, or queue the folder.
