I have a 12 dollar speaker setup on one of my computers, which is perfectly capable of playing flac and shn at a high enough quality to be noticeably better than "good quality" VBR mp3s.

Why would anyone listen on a Bose system when they could be listening to live music?

People like mp3s because they fit the bandwidth they have available. You gotta listen to something while you spend 2 weeks downloading last night's Umphrey's McGee show at 28k/s.

But we have to make it known that we want the quality, or we'll get another "laserdisc vs dvd" situation. DVD is utter crap compared to Laserdisc, and Laserdisc actually became a viable product for a while. Now where is it?
