Re: No spam here |
I've never spammed anything or anyone in my life, Ms Tracey Webmaster. I was attempting to help a fellow poster with a problem. Can I have a retraction please?

Re: No spam here |
Password aside, is either Traffic or Clapton/Winwood a trade-friendly band?

Re: No spam here |
Diana - regarding Traffic, I have no idea how they feel/felt about taping as I'm not that big a fan. As far as Clapton is concerned, it seems, given the fact that he is one of the most bootlegged artists ever and that many of these appear to be soundboard recordings, that he can't be going out of his way to make life difficult for the tapers. I realise that isn't the same as actively condoning their activities and falls well short of allowing recordings to be posted up to a one-stop-shop site such as the Archive, but it doesn't seem to me that he's entirely unhappy about being bootlegged and fan-traded.
And yes I know, an unsubstantiated surmise and a couple of dollars might just get me a cup of coffee...

Re: No trade-unfriendly bands here, err... |
Yeah, that "people sneak tapes a lot" logic certainly doesn't make anyone opt-in, given that Dylan is in the same "most bootlegged ever" category. :P

I would imagine that Dylan and Clapton don't feel much of an obligation to 'opt in' to anything and basically couldn't give a flying fornication what the rest of us get up to.

Re: No spam here |
no retraction here, per se...
we don't put passwords on the Archive generated zips, period.
we've been having a lot of trouble with malicious posts and items in the last few weeks so i figured this was yet another attempt to either get people to type in compromised passwords or something. besides, password-ed zips? i've heard of that for rars but not for zips (but perhaps apparently i'm not so up-to-date on all the swell things people are doing these days).
so i guess you were talking about a zip for the offsite/non-IA link above, then?
no problem for people to discuss other sites or offerings on our site/forums -- but it wasn't immediately clear what you were suggesting (meaning -- i read it as you were talking about an Archive item...)
so there it is. you may push for a retraction more if you like. i can move my position more if need be 8-)

Re: No spam here |
Ok, Tracey, here’s how it all went down as I see it. A poster (alycabally) reported trouble opening a zip file downloaded from another site. Being a generally good-natured and helpful person I took a look at said site to see if I could ascertain what the problem might be. Whereupon it became evident that the zips downloaded from this site were password protected, a fact I passed on in the post you apparently took objection to. If it wasn’t ‘immediately clear’ what I was suggesting then perhaps a couple of clicks on the ‘see parent post’ link might have enlightened you. I’ve often, probably deservedly, been called many things on this forum, but any implication, direct or indirect, that I’m spamming, or condoning spamming, I find objectionable.
And yes, it is perfectly common to come across both zips and rars that are password protected. Feel like moving that position of yours a little more?

Re: No spam here |
sure i'm in a generous mood and recanting is important to you.
recanted.
for the record, i read all the way up to the mommy post twice and it wasn't 100% clear it was talking about another item (i often am confused reading GD forum posts, but i think there are often quite mystifying posts in GD -- all part of the charm/appeal i can tell).
(i took no objection to you trying to help -- very kind of you. i was concerned, and wrong, that you were one of the malice-ee-osious people we have been trying to hunt down...)
enjoy the week!

Re: No spam here |
Tracey - you're by no means the only one who gets confused by the posts in gd territory. Mischievous mystification is the forte of many in these parts.
I thank you for your graciousness - I may be an asshole (as many will testify) but I'm not an evil or 'malice-ee-osious' asshole.
You enjoy your week too!

Re: No spam here |
I hear you, Ms H., and generally speaking when in sober and reflective mood (and usually when drunk and drooling too) I'm pretty circumspect about the posting of links to other places (youtube excepted - guilty as charged there I fear).
