I run a free file-hosting service (call it server.com) on a box connected to my personal DSL line; this service gets 40k-50k requests a day, for roughly 1.8gb of traffic a day. Obviously, Freecache could be rather helpful for me. I'd like to hide the weirdness of Freecache URLs from my users by providing a subdomain that redirects to Freecache; for example, a request to http://cache.server.com/username/filename would be redirected to http://freecache.org/http://www.server.com/username/filename. Unless there's a better way to do it, I'd simply use Apache's mod_rewrite to re-write the URLs. Are there any rules against this, or other reasons not to do it? I will give due credit to Freecache for providing the caching, of course.
