Re: Removal of a previous Web site? |
embarrassing or not, the archive of your old company's website is of historical significance...
what if you found a garbage pile in back of your warehouse from last century... would you deprive the archaeologists the opportunity to study it?
I encourage everyone to allow their outdated materials to remain on the archive.org site, in the interests of history, if there is not a compelling reason to remove it.
Pointing out here that it is probably archived elsewhere as well, as I am certain that there are other groups archiving in a less high-profile manner. If it's been on the net ever, it's possible it's still around.
Don't put anything on the net that you wouldn't want to be around for a LONG time.

Re: Removal of a previous Web site? |
Then is the Internet Archive's objective to hinder companies from producing a consistent image? It's disgraceful to science to defend damage to business in the name of knowledge.
I am the rightful owner of the previous version of my corporate site, and I would like it removed from your archive.

Re: Removal of a previous Web site? |
To clarify, since I'm not sure which part of the reply you're responding to - Glenn is simply a user of the Internet Archive, and those are his own opinions. Igor has referred you to this URL:
http://www.archive.org/about/exclude.php
..which should help you remove your page for Wayback Machine viewing. Unfortunately, there's no ability to explicitly remove a certain date right now, but you can certainly exclude your site this way.
Thanks,
Simon.

Thanks. While I would have liked my company to participate in the Internet Archive, I feel it is in our best interests to disallow the Internet Archive from archiving our site.

Re: Removal of a previous Web site? |
Historical significance or no, having old site designs available can be a nuisance. I used to have some limited-edition downloads on my site related to a TV show. Now that the company is out of business, I am getting email requests to upload files I no longer have, and have not had for over a year.
So some of us are forced to exlude ourselves or deal with new penpals who are not always polite.

Re: Removal of a previous Web site? |
you can also use a robots.txt file to specify which parts of your site are spidered by 'friendly' user agents... however, unfriendly user agents will ignore your robots.txt file...
see
http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/norobots.html
for more info on robots.txt files.
