I know that some of the Prelinger MPEG2 files are 360x480, I wonder if those are the ones that are giving you the jaggies. Perhaps you need an algorithm smarter than VD's default for the doubling of horizontal resolution. I've seen other programs have problems with that step.

Strangely enough the size it does not seem to affect the quality, I think it may be the transcoding to MPEG2 which is better for some files than others. For example, "The American Look" has almost no artifacts upon re-sizing, it looks just great, but "American Thrift" has loads of jagged edges for all diagonal details...

Has anyone had any luck with other resizing techniques that eliminate this effect?

In case anyone cares...here's the best result I've found for resizing, use Virtualdub, and be sure to select "precise bilinear" as the method, it seems to minimize the "blocky" look.
