I'd just prior to this made a post myself about trouble I'd had getting these films onto DVD (which I've resolved since thankfully).

I use mpeg2, which fit a lot nicer onto a DVD than mpeg4 would; for instance the first one I've done contains 16 films (some of which are quite long).

All I do is

a) Download them.
b) Import them into DVD-Lab, which automatically demuxes them (or run them through MPEG-VCR if they are encrypted).
c) Design fancy menus and burn disc.
d) Enjoy them on the big screen =)

I don't mess with dead frames etc as (for myself anyway) it detracts from the feeling of the films.

I can really recommend DVD-Lab though, even just for menu creation it's far better than I've encountered in other DVD creation software.
