Superfluous three night stand, recorded on 16 track, featuring the Live Dead materiel in its raging glory!

I want this boxed set...

1/24/69 - Avalon

Cryptical Envelopment > drums > The Other One > Cryptical Envelopment > space > New Potato Caboose, Dupree's Diamond Blues, Doin' That Rag Dark Star, Lovelight > drums

Source: SB (Kaplan)
Sound: A-
Score: 95+ pts

Comments: First ever Dupree's & Doin' That Rag? Power is cut during Lovelight but Billy & Mickey are not ready to quit!

Highlights: Cryptical/Other One/Cryptical, Caboose is well jammed, DS, Lovelight

1/25/69 - Avalon

Dark Star > St. Stephen > The Eleven > Lovelight Dupree's Diamond Blues > Doin' That Rag > Cosmic Charlie, Alligator > drums > Alligator > Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks) > Feedback > And We Bid You Good Night

Source: SB (Kaplan)
Sound: A-
Score: 97 pts

Comments: Is TC high in the mix, or has this been adulterated with an added keyboard track?

Highlights: DS, St Stephen w/William Tell bridge, Eleven, Alligator/Caution

1/26/69 - Avalon

Cryptical Envelopment > Drums > The Other One > Cryptical Envelopment > Clementine > Death Don't Have No Mercy Dark Star > St Stephen > The Eleven > Turn On Your Love Light

Source: SB (Kaplan)
Sound: A-
Score: 99 pts

Comments: Eleven/Lovelight are on Live Dead

Highlights: Eerie/slow Clementine, William Tell bridge, entire show smokes!

Cliff-yep, great stuff. An odd note: when I signed my daughter up to download from URGE music (ipod), these three concerts were listed. I downloaded them during the free trial period--though I have since upgraded to lossless (like my ears can tell at 65mph.).

Odd, huh?

It hurts to realize that these shows could be available in 16-track glory instead of the moderately degraded copies making the rounds. Isn't it great how the commercial releases have taken off since Rhino took over?

WTF!!!

Why dont we have re-mastered releases of 8/27/72, Winterland '74, Europe '72, bla, bla, woof, woof!

Why are we getting nothing?

And dont bring up Cow Palace, its not nearly enough...

No--lovely as it is, it's not enough for what has it been--two years?

Has Cliff ever looked up superfluous in the dictionary? Or are these shows indeed superfluous?

Cliff thinks Pigpen is indeed over the top during this three night stand, but perhaps Lou can suggest a more appropriate adjective?

Lou, please re-post the thread on New Potato Caboose that you posted while Cliff was in Alaska. It certainly deserves some more attention (it was immediately pushed down by some nonsense as Cliff recalls?).

Just a quick check into to say that I love the Avalon. I do love 10-12-68 & 10-13-68 a tad more than this January run, but still, this one is great. The various runs of 68 and 69, as well as 70 are so nice...I suppose the 70s and 80s era folks say the same thing about their beloved strings at Winterland or wherever, but gotta love this multiple night stand approach by the boys.

Cliff

I am never going to get to those post 93 shows at this rate.
I really like the Doing that rag.

How would you like to be the guy who pulled the plug on a dead set?
