Forum: movies Subject: Are there fewer mpeg2-formatted films now?

Hello,

I really appreciate what archive.org offers and have enjoyed downloading many mpeg4 films. After watching them on my Palm PDA, I have downloaded some as mpeg2 files and "burned" them as DVDs.

Today, I clicked on some of the newer additions to the moving images library and couldn't find any being offered as mpeg2 files. Is there a reason for this, other than the time and effort involved? I guess I'm asking whether there is a new "policy" not to put mpeg2 files up on your web site. Thank you.

It's the decision of the uploader. IA actually prefers mpeg2, they can transcode that into the other formats.

Check MediaCoder for converting the avi's into mpeg2/dvd format. It's a nice package, it supports any formats you'll find here.
