Re: Seemingly Unpopular Songs/Albums/Shows, etc. That You Enjoy Regardless |
I really, sincerely love What's Become of the Baby, but only on the original mix of Aoxomoxoa--an LP transcription of which has been torrented at a number of sites over the past year. I think it's a brilliant, emotionally intense piece of musique concrete, and Jerry (or Phil, or whomever you think did the Aoxomoxoa remix) was out of his head when he destroyed it in the remix.
I also wish they had played Death Don't Have No Mercy and It's All Over Now Baby Blue way more than they did.
Does Lazy Lightning > Supplication qualify? I have no use for the lyrics and hot-shit singing, but I adore the drippy 7/4 jamming.
I don't know what people think about Big River, but the guitar work and interlocking rhythms make it way more than just another upbeat tune in my book.

I feel the second night of the warlocks hampton show was a tad overrated, but not that Death Don't. Goose Bump city on that baby.

If Lazy Lightning>Supplication gets slammed, then I have to add it to the list that I used to start this thread. Never, ever saw a weak version of that. Weir's attack on the vocals fit the lyrics like a glove---Lazy Lightning, they say you'll never strike the same place/I want a double dose in my case!
Love it. One of my all-time favorites.

Shame the Dead eliminated that Supplication-extension, when was that?
Naturally Cliff prefers the jammed-out Kingfish versions from the mid-seventies. Wier and Hoddinot could really work that out...

Hoddinot on Battle of New Orleans from 76 is simply amazing...
