Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Finally here. #Welcome

Hello. (I am a new community member, so please excuse all mistakes that I possibly make. I hope, this is an appropriate place for this post.)

I learnt to know the Internet Archive in late 2011.
I went through many times, such as 20120229, where robots.txt on ytimg was finally removed. Or the virus collection/museum from February 2016. I also wished, that the mandatory (20160315) new website layout was still optional, parallel to the legacy one. There are many old websites that I miss. I am afraid, that they are removed. http://www.quora.com/unanswered/How-can-I-find-something-on-the-internet-I-remember-details-about-that-are-insuitable-for-search-engines

I thought: It is getting time, finally to make an account on one of my favourite websites.
There are many posts I collected, that I wanted to share.
One random [I unfortunately forgot, what I indended to write here, while I typed somewhere else.]

I am also the person, who suggested the feature to the Internet Archive in 2014 or 2015, to show the number of duplicates and unique captures of each website on the history itself + mark/hide duplicated (old features, that were removed).
There were a few parallel clones such as Bibalex. There were yet another few, that displayed the legacy design of the Wayback Calendar, that do not jump into my mind currently.

Another thing: I have seen some websites, that were captured by the Internet Archive multiple times in one second, so I suggest to include milliseconds to the timestamps.

I am open for new things, but I am also nostalgic. I can think of many old software/music/etc. discs that can barely be found or have never ever received the appreciation they deserved. It's sad, how data deterioation kills them.

I guess, that the forum also allows requests (compareable to KickAss Torrents).

Random fact: What I do not like is: closed-source abandonware without useable/compareable alternative. No forking possible for further developement.
Another thing: I wonder, why the Internet Archive archived some YouTube videos and some not.

There are many things from the past years, that I can't think of right now, but I have to get off my chest here.

I hope, that I will have a good time here. I am glad, that I finally created my account, and I would highly appreciate an open and friendly community.
I consider Brewster Kahle as a real genius.

Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Feature suggestion for Internet Archive: View counts.

Hello.
I suggest to the Internet Archive, that views from logged and from guest users will be countet (seperately from each other), so that I can see, how many times my thread has been viewed. That's interesting, and many other websites such as Quora also have that feature.

actually, forum post view counts was once a feature in the forums, and while i am not 100% sure, i think the feature was removed due to complaints from the significant others of certain forum members, who complained that their significant others were using 'view counts' as evidence to complain about their lack of 'adoration/love' at home when compared to the idolization they were getting from complete strangers online; again, this is part speculation on my part and not to be taken as gospel/fake news, etc.

SDH ... PM ... care to weigh in?

Oh yeah, and I recall how one could simply click the post to add to the total...perhaps it was the problem with carpal tunnel syndrome that SDH and I developed that caused the powers that be to eliminate that feature--I mean, something had to be done when the most prolific posters were heading off to the ER on a regular basis, eh?

It was difficult to account for 10,000 views w/in 12 hrs on a post concerning CREAM when the entire Forum population was estimated at 23 and a third members, you know?

:)

Good to see ya, Arb!

Yes, and click counts were much like voting in America. The more you get, the the more righter you are. I'm sure WT will recall his landslide victory in the heavily contested Prime Minister Race where he handily beat the odds on favorite, Smi2les. Afterwards,Smi2les blamed the KGB, J Edgar Hoover, and vast touchhead conspiracy for the loss.

Potential witnesses died or disappeared mysteriously, and ultimately there was never enough evidence brought for impeachment. WT now operates a government in exile from behind the walls of a 15th century castle replete with a moat filled with Flint Michigan city drinking water,

Like it was yesterday...of course, the slimy thing is, about that water, damn it if SDH doesn't double dip by raking in big bucks for his work on a Superfund Site Cleanup (over stating the obvious, eh?) in which he uses his own massively over engineered Trans Continental Pipeline to Hell (we qualify, let me tell you) to pump it directly from Flint to the Moat...then the damn stuff never evaporates, despite afternoon temps of 120 F (coming soon!).

The nice thing about gubermints in exile is that I am always mis-remembering my constituency...er, constitution...no, hmm, convocation? Damn, well, as I say, no one really keeps tabs once you're in absentia, just ask Monte.

Or just delete him, he'll understand.

;)

Ha--yes, at least I can make a comeback from Elba, less so from St Helena...
