I was there. I had fun!
Though I had seen the boys back since 76.....this was the first time I was handed the steering wheel!
I got to drive the bus, Bobby said so!
I think I did a good job, you think?
On a hot summer day, go outside, grab a beer, smokemifyahaveem and stream it now!

Alpine Valley
A terrific show, not often reviewed. Sound was dead on clear as a bell. I remember, or think I remember, an amazing lost sailer/saint beginning the second set. Also, He's Gone, which was always a treat. Sat way back on the hill. Right next to a big tree which I kept trying to climb. Drove in from Mpls to see this show. This is an overlooked show. Get it

Hot Tour / Show / Venue
Brent's b'day was in october fellas...Weir was perpetually screwing around with the b'day theme, was just one of this things, don;t take it literally.
Anyway this is a good show, had a great time, stream it. First of seven straight years at Alpine then it got unbearable after '86. I don't review these shows like they are Duran and Duran and analyze licks and lyrics they hit or miss. or "energy levels". with this band it is about the live experience, and how well does the recording capture it. This one does a good job.
Please qualify your reviews folks by letting us know if you were in attendance or not.

Tennessee Jed: Bobby teases Brent during this show about"It's not really his birthday but it's ALMOST his birthday..etc. that's what he is talking about.

3rd Show
From what I remember this was a pretty good night.
Actually, this was still when Alpine allowed you to go in with milk jugs filled with whatever as long as there were no bottles. We went in with a gallon of screwdrivers and a gallon of rum and coke. So I don't remember that much. What stood out the most was the interplay between Bobby and Jerry.

RE: Almost Brent's birthday show
GruUbic.....Brent's birthday is in October, unless I'm mistaken. He died on July 26, if that is what you meant.....but regardless, no point in mentioning an "almost" anything....

I Remember - sort of.
I was at this show. I had general admission tickets then won a pair on the end of the second row. The rows nearest the stage at Alpine curve, so there were a few extra seats in the second row and were actually closer to the stage than those in the first row. I could talk about so many memories, the t-shirt I wore with all the icons from the albums, security trying to keep us in our seats, the intensity of the opening Alabama Getaway, being exactly in front of Brent. It was, to say the least, an experience of a lifetime. What fun to listen to it all again. Thanks! Only four stars for the muffled sound.

Rockin' '81 show
The soundboard is better, but includes only the second set (as of this writing). Listen to the first here, then switch to the soundboard.
The really solid first set zooms by, starting with rocking versions of Alabama->Greatest Story show openers. The band produces a good jam on Bird Song, and Jerry and Brent give us hot solos on Big River.
Jerry is in good form throughout, though, with more slick Jerry licks on Tennessee Jed, and he tears it up on Minglewood. Chinacat has a nice jam in the second half going into Rider, and suddenly the set is over.
With the second set, you can switch to the soundboard. It starts out with a bang, but isn’t as perfect as the first set. He’s Gone is a little slow, and Bob stumbles on the lyrics of Truckin’ several times, though the extended jam into Drums is a show highlight. The jam coming out of Drums into the Other One isn’t bad, either. Bob’s treatment of the vocals mars the Other One, but Jerry really shows his chops here when Bob isn’t talking through the lyrics. The abrupt move into Stella Blue is jarring, but it’s a good Stella, with Jerry, once again, doing a fine job on guitar and a nice vocal as well (though at this point, the audio quality isn’t as good). A lovely Brokedown Palace with good vocal harmonies sends everyone back home.
I like this show, though, and it’s worth repeated listening.

First show
Not a bad first show. Incredible scene - everybody talks about the Dead on the East Coast, but I think the pinnacle venue for them outside of Cali was Alpine in the woods. Fabulous across the board.

Couple shots 'a whiskey, Wisconsin Dead start soundin' good
I just listened to this show on a drive from Chicago to Milwaukee. It was a warm, rainy morning, but this Alpine show's first set brought the sun out. Unbelievable energy from Jerry and the crew, and this recording really captures it. Set 1 just seems to get better and better, without stopping. Driving through that southern Wisconsin fog and listening to "I wish I was a headlight..." is the best way to end a set.
Set 2 is great, and with a fine encore. I want to share Set 1 with all my friends, because the energy is some of the best I've heard. Forget 6-10-73; this 81 show is GREAT.

Garcia In Command
I was in attendance at this show and it stood out for two reasons:
1. Garcia was "on" and the sound was incredible, which is picked up on the recording here.
2. If you want to sample a song before downloading, listen to "Chinacat" which might just possibly blow you away... It's one of those shows where even a song or two that perhaps one has heard enough of over the years can spark interest.

Gotta get this one - Should be a Dicks....
Why you need to own this show:
1. Best Lost Sailor>St. of Circ. I've ever heard...no shit.
2. The boys are "on"
3. Truckin - The intro is a circus theme (you'll know it when you hear it) that I've not heard them do before. Also, Jerry and Phil are totally on the same page (takes a trained ear to hear this) and Bobby flubs so many versus it's great. He actually sings "Ever since she went and had her SEX Changed, all her friends can say is ain't it a shame, it just aint the same".
