Subject: BTW Returns
I was reading my Complete Grateful Dead lyrics Bible and found this story on BTW.
'After falling in love with the song from the early 70's shows, I see it hadn't been played until 3/16/90
I immediately went to the archives and found this SMOKIN show.
I so agree with one readers comment, " If we only had Jerry and Brent"
is all I can say.

Subject: Top 3 best shows I ever caught
They were on fire from Note 1. The LTGTR is simply air-tight. Bobby's falsetto is perfection. The Touch is RIPPING. This is when Brent decides the B-3 is the better choice over the bell-sounding synth and it's the right call. The Touch rocks, rather than bounces. Minglewood is complete smoke. Jerry sounds like he doesn't want to stop after the 3rd pass in his 2nd solo, but trails off so sweetly when Bob starts singing. Peggy-O is gorgeous. The band awaits Garcia's lyric - no one stumbles. Queen Jane is wonderful, which is hard to say for a song that I never really enjoyed the GD playing, other than this version and one in Highgate, Vermont when it was one of the few decently played songs of the night. Bob's "Your sister - your father, to your sister (here we go), he explains" is classic Weir. If you want to hear Jerry Garcia posessed, listen to Loser. If, after listening to this version, you don't think he can do no wrong this night, you are mistaken.
On the way down to the show, I said to my buddy, "I'd love to hear BT Wind, but shit - they haven't played it since '74." What a gift. Even with the lame alternate lyrics, it blew me away that they busted it out. I should have put 2 & 2 together, since they busted the Loose Lucy 2 nights before (last time played? same 74 show as the BT Wind). Bird Song is nothing short of epic. SO spacey and, coming back in from the big jam, Brent's noodling makes the transition sweeter. I like this version better than the one on Without A Net, for that reason especially. Blow Away to close the set blows the roof off this old building.
Before the lights go back down, I look at the 5 headed man next to me and ask, "What do you think they'll open with?" He says, "Scarlet into Estimated," Nice call for a guy with 5 heads. These two songs are executed near perfect. Jerry still smokin' hot. I think he misses a verse in Scarlet, but at this point, he's SO on top of his guitar game, it doesn't matter. Bob's vocals in Estimated are sick. One of my fave Bob tunes ever and always loved seeing it (until he later changed the arrangement, then it became just 'ok', to me). Ship Of Fools > Man Smart/Woman Smarter is always a fun combo and again, Jerry is too sweet for words. He brings the Ship down to the point where you can hear a pin drop. I always loved that about this band. Not many are capable of that in a hall with 20k people. Drums/Space was a nice breather for me - I had a serious headful and needed it. Coming out with The Other One was just sheer nastiness and into a beautiful version of Stella Blue. The Sugar Magnolia has one little hiccup but is still a great rockin' closer.
AND I got my very first Last Time as the encore (I think this may have only been the 2nd or 3rd time they ever did it).
I hope I always remember this night.

Subject: BTW
I can't believe that no one has mentioned the alternate lyrics on BTW! They seem to fit very well. I just heard this in the car on Sirius "Today in GD history" so I decided to check out the whole show. I check all of the reviews from the copies on LMA and no mention. Does anyone know anything about this?

Great show, great energy, pretty good sound!

Jerry and Brent had survived.

We could of had more great shows like this.
Of the 3 AUDS available I'll take this one
it has better presence in my opinion.
