This year i have mostly been ...
Monday, 7 January: Ate the last of the Christmas leftovers. Listened to January 1st by Monk Turner - hopeful, melancholy, White-Album-worthy guitar riffs and a hint of the epic.
Friday, 15 February: Fuck couples. Listened to 'Valentines Directions for the Lonely'. Damn, that Monk Turner is sillier and wickeder than the Beastie Boys. He's got a damn fine sense of timing. Wonder if he's single ...
Tuesday, 18 March: Five years of war. Combatted it with MT's loungey protest song 'March in March'. Longin' for peace with a sax. (And when do we want it? Now.)
Sunday, 13 April: Felt laid-back, wistful yet groovy. Felt like an interlude. Felt like 'April Girl.'
Saturday, 31 May: This month is a two-timing ho. I celebrated it with all the Taurans by playing 'Merry May'. It was '80s-tastic, not to mention all the danceable beats.
Thursday, 12 June: MT stopped by. We talked about June. He hates this month. He played a rowdy, boozy, goofy circus-romp of a song about heartbreak. It was like crawling inside his head - sticky but fun. (Take me to the bridge - and bring them horns.)
Wednesday, 23 July: Hot. Deadly. Summer in South Central. Nothing for it but MT's 'Hot July'. Infectious hip-hop with politics and playground taunts, topped with salsa. I think we'll survive.
Saturday, 9 August: Watched docu-drama about Emperor Augustus. It was shit compared to Monk's song, which combines hardcore Roman dictatorship with Monty Python. Features a cameo by Kermit the Frog. (Don't hate the player, love the panpipes.)
Monday, 1 September: Avoided the shops and listened to 'Labour Day Sale'. All the shopping-wonderland muzak, none of the hassle.
Friday, 31 October: Woke to hair-metal music and kids waving flashlights. Luckily it was just 'Halloween Night' left on repeat on the stereo.
Wednesday, 26 November: Will never have time to make dinner tomorrow. All the stores are sold out of Tofurkey. Might just kick back with MT's 'Turkey Time' - a dose of Bill and Ted doing Rammstein in the Style of the Beach Boys. A toast to health -- and mashed potatoes.
Friday, 19 December: Got sad thinking of another year over, but listened to Monk Turner's 'December Song' and saw the whole year flash before my eyes, like a crazy party of people around a mic. And we can do it all again next year ...
